E&I Project Engineer

Electrical and Instrumentation Project Engineer

The Bayer Luling site operates 24/7 365 and is constantly striving to increase safety, reliability, and efficiency in operation. The Project Electrical and Instrumentation Engineer regularly receives project requests that must be evaluated to ensure they correctly resolve the issue the unit is facing. Once evaluated the engineer creates a design that can be installed safely and will operate reliably for years to come with the ability to be maintained. This is only accomplished by working closely with not only other engineers of other disciplines, but by going to the field and working with the operators who will use the equipment. The successful candidate will have knowledge of and experience with both instrumentation systems and low/medium voltage protection and distribution. It is expected that this candidate will be on site whenever required, however we are testing a hybrid work schedule that allows some time to work from home. This role also allows for interaction with many different aspects of the site's operations and the opportunity to work with many different people at the site including equipment operators and upper level management.

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities of this role are to:

  • Provide engineering and project management to capital projects, from project initiation through completion; participate as engineering lead on Global Engineering projects;
  • Responsible for more complex engineering and project management as well as an increased project work load;
  • Develop accurate project cost estimates, identify cost savings, and provide updates to management;
  • Lead project reviews and assure thorough action item follow up;
  • Develop clear and concise appropriation requests, communicating and presenting background and justification;
  • Select appropriate vendors, soliciting bids with purchasing;
  • Guide Construction Field Coordinators with project implementation requirements; visit job sites to review work activities, safety, and construction;
  • Accurately document project files and closure information in a timely manner;
  • Ensure systems and equipment are designed and installed in accordance with Bayer and regulatory standards with life cycle cost considered;
  • Provide leadership and engineering assistance to site personnel to facilitate application of plant and corporate standards, safety procedures, and other regulatory requirements;
  • Mentor and educate leadership, technicians, planners, and other engineers.

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering;
  • Strong commitment to safety;

  • Solid communication skills, both written and oral;

  • Computer proficiency in Windows based programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook);
  • General knowledge of batch and / or continuous process operations;
  • Understand and utilize National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards;
  • Understand and utilize National Electric Code (NEC) standards;
  • Strong decision making and problem solving skills;
  • Strong project management and multitasking skill;
  • Computer proficiency in SAP and Microsoft Project.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering and a minimum of seven years engineering experience in manufacturing, engineering or related field.
