Overview

As a Senior Drainage/Hydraulics Specialist Engineer at Flatiron, you will be responsible for overseeing the design of drainage and hydraulic systems for complex transportation infrastructure projects. This includes addressing major and unique drainage challenges and ensuring effective stormwater management. You will lead specialized multi-disciplinary engineering teams, provide technical insight, and resolve design and construction challenges. You will also be responsible for performing technical reviews, engineering analysis, and presenting analysis and review findings at technical meetings.

What you will be doing
    Lead the design of drainage and hydraulic systems for complex transportation infrastructure projects, including addressing major and unique drainage and hydraulic challenges.
  • Conduct technical due-diligence reviews of design deliverables, implement best practice for design and construction needs, develop innovative and optimized solutions, identify and mitigate key design risks, and ensure compliance with contract and industry requirements.
  • Provide engineering evaluation and analysis, including advanced drainage analysis and hydraulic modeling, and site investigations.
  • Lead specialized design coordination and liaison with external and internal Parties to provide technical insight and resolve design and construction challenges.
  • Perform technical reviews and engineering analysis in an accurate, complete, and timely manner.
  • Present analysis, review findings, and recommendations at technical meetings and to Clients, as requested.
  • Capture and spread design innovation and lessons learned to all Districts.
  • Maintain knowledge of Flatiron's company values and strategic plan.
  • Support published corporate policies.
  • Perform additional assignments per management's direction.
What we are looking for
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related field required.
  • Master's Degree or Doctorate (PhD) in Civil Engineering preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Strong academic knowledge of Drainage/Hydraulics Engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience in drainage design, encompassing detailed hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, and possessing a broad understanding of various aspects including, but not limited to: hydrology (rainfall modeling, watershed analysis, discharge development and routing, etc.), hydraulics (pavement drainage, culverts, storm systems, pump stations, pressure pipe, bridge sizing and scour, sediment transport, revetment design, coastal considerations for highway drainage, flood analysis, erosion control, etc.), and drainage design (preparation of drainage plans, profiles, specifications, and estimates for transportation and water resources projects, etc.) is required.
  • Experience with industry design codes and standards.
  • Proficiency in analytical and numerical industry design software is essential (e.g., HEC-RAS, SWMM, AutoCAD, GIS, etc.).
  • Strong communication (verbal and written) and management skills are essential.
