Job Overview

This position conducts face-to-face interviews with patients and families to gather, assemble and review information supplied by the applicant for financial assistance.

Job Status: Full time, 40 hours per week.
Shift: Tuesday through Saturday. 9:30am to 6pm. In person.

Qualifications
  • EDUCATION - High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • - (1) year of experience in medical insurance and/or customer service in healthcare environment OR one (1) year of experience in medical insurance in public sector (State or County) OR two (2) years of non-health care, non-public sector financial experience.

  • CERTIFICATION(S) - Certification with the State of Colorado for CBMS Access

Responsibilities

POPULATION SPECIFIC CARE
No direct patient care.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all the following essential functions. These examples do not include all the functions which the employee may be expected to perform.

1.Completes financial screening and obtains required documentation for each application type. Completes financial applications for Medicaid, CICP and Child Health Plan Plus. Secures and converts all self-pay, underinsured, and high dollar patients, inpatients, ER patients and scheduled surgery patients.
2.Answers patient questions regarding financial assistance eligibility and communicates the application status. Follows the application and updates patient Medical Record for all applicable accounts once the application has been proceeded by the county. Assists with certain out of state Medicaid applications.
3.Interprets individual financial statements, bank accounts and tax returns to accurately rate a patient using the guidelines of the charitable and government programs. Provides families with pharmacy needs with CHCO internal Balloon Boy Program and 340B Pharmacy program.
4.Provides families additional resources that CHCO offers such as payment plans and Cost Estimates. Provides the family additional resources for Health Care Guides and Affordable Care ACT.
5.Manages assigned work queues and phone que. Provides customer service to patients, co-workers, and clinical staff. Greets customers on the telephone or in person, assesses needs and provides information for services requested. Acts as a liaison between health services, social services, case management and the community.
6.Completes patient accounts based on departmental protocol, state and federal policies, procedures, and compliance with regulatory agencies. Administers hospital, State and Federal regulations for financial assistance policies, Medicaid and the Colorado Indigent Care Program (CICP).
7.Establishes and coordinates a schedule for walk-in assistance applicants and facilitates application process.
8.Works with families to ensure that insurance is active and help resolve any discrepancies such as COBRA, Date of Birth Miss match and adding a newborn to coverage.
9.Maintains knowledge and stays up-to-date with all internal and external policy and procedures that may affect reimbursement.
10.Scans all required documents and approved applications within EMR.
11.Collects copays for services rendered based on copay scale.

Complexity: Falls between the entry and full performance/senior level. Duties assigned are generally repetitive and restricted in scope but may be of substantial intricacy. Employee primarily applies standardized practices.

Decision Making: Decisions or recommendations on non-standardized situations are limited to relating organizational policies to specific cases. Brings non routine issues to supervisor. Problems that are not covered by guidelines or that are without precedent are taken up with the supervisor.

Communications: Contacts with team members, clients or the public where explanatory or interpretive information is exchanged, gathered, or presented and some degree of discretion and judgment are required within the parameters of the job function.

Supervision Received: Under normal supervision, within a standardized work situation, the employee performs duties common to the line of work without close supervision or detailed instruction. Work product is subject to continual review.

Salary Information

Annual Salary Range (Based on 40 hours worked per week): $46,178.32 to $69,267.49
Hourly Salary Range: $22.20 to $33.30
