This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin's multiple Blue Moon lander product lines. To further Blue Origin's mission of having millions of people living and working in space, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

As part of a hardworking team of diverse specialists, technicians, and engineers, you will work as a Systems Engineer supporting the Fuel Cell Generator design and integration on the MK1 Lander. You will share in the team's impact on all aspects of systems engineering, including supporting requirements and interfaces generation, technical performance metrics definition and tracking, ConOps development, and verification, validation, and certification of the Fuel Cell Generator on the MK1 vehicle.

You will work directly with NASA and our National Team Partners as part of the Human Landing System (HLS) Sustaining Lunar Development (SLD) program. You will play a key role in developing the Lunar Transportation system that will return humans to the Moon and extend human presence permanently beyond the bounds of Earth.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop Fuel Cell system design artifacts for one or more in-space architectures.
  • Allocate and decompose higher-level functions and requirements to the Fuel Cell Generator.
  • Support the alignment, documentation, and consistent implementation of Lunar Permanence System engineering practices across applicable projects.
  • Support system and lower-level requirements management, including change control, audits, and coordination with other teams.
  • Support the development and creation of ConOps.
  • During system engineering reviews of requirement development, decomposition, and allocation activities (requirements traceability), apply the definition of customer needs, integration, requirements definition, verification and validation planning, and requirements management.
  • Coordinate and collaborate as needed to ensure alignment of V&V activities by V&V plan.
  • Develop subsystem and component level verification and validation activity definitions including verification methods, expectations, and compliance criteria.
  • Create verification matrices assessing compliance to subsystem and component level requirements.
  • Coordinate with Integration & Test teams to ensure test facilities (including integration labs) have the required capabilities per the requirements definition.
  • Track V&V activities to successful completion, which may include reviewing subsystem test plans and possible travel to test facilities when needed.
  • Support in the definition of vehicle-level interfaces between systems and elements that interact with the Fuel Cell Generator.
  • Support in the authoring of safety artifacts, including functional hazard assessments and hazard mitigations.
  • Support in the creation of test plans.
  • Mentor early career systems engineers.

Minimum Qualifications

  • B.S. degree or equivalent relevant experience in Systems, Aerospace, Mechanical, or related subject area
  • Successful candidates in this role typically have 5+ years of related experience
  • Proven ability to interpret and apply high-level system requirements to practical design solutions for a complex physical assembly
  • In-depth knowledge of systems engineering practices (e.g., requirements development; standard verification methods; functional decomposition; standard diagramming techniques; risk and opportunity management
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment while regularly providing imaginative and detailed technical solutions to complex problems
  • Experience with requirements management software
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Preferred Qualifications

  • M.S. in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical subject area
  • Familiarity with fuel cell stacks and balance of plant components
  • 5+ years experience on large engineering systems in industries such as aerospace or automotive
  • Experience with requirements and V&V tracking tools, preferably using JAMA.
  • Experience with performing system safety analyses including Functional Hazard Assessments (FHA), Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality Analyses (FMECA), and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA).
  • Experience with Model Based System Engineering approaches.
  • Experience operating on an Agile team

Compensation range for on site CO applicants is $110,055-$154,077
