Job Summary:

A postdoctoral position in virology is available immediately to join the dynamic research group of Dr. Kvaratskhelia at Division of Infectious Diseases, University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. The research will focus on characterizing biological roles of novel cellular binding partners of HIV-1 capsid recently identified in our laboratory. Furthermore, we are developing allosteric inhibitors of HIV-1 with new antiviral mechanisms of action for their potential clinical use. These inhibitors will be also used as powerful investigational probes to study virus-host interactions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct virology assays with HIV-1 and other retroviruses including preparation of virus stocks, infection of target cells, quantitative analyses of HIV-1 replication intermediates.
  • Study virus-host interactions using siRNA and shRNA-mediated knockdown of the cellular proteins of interest, proximity ligation assays, confocal microscopy, immunoblotting.
  • Assay antiviral activities of HIV-1 inhibitors.
  • Summarize, interpret, and communicate experimental results.
  • Write scientific papers for peer-reviewed journals.
  • Present research findings at national meetings and conferences.
  • Initiate and maintain relationships with collaborators, including coordination of experimental work.
  • Assist Dr. Kvaratskhelia in preparation of grant applications.

Work Location:

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, Colorado.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • Education: PhD in life sciences.
  • Experience: performing virology experiments, analyzing experimental results, and preparing draft manuscripts.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Manuscript writing experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • The postdoctoral researcher must have a good general knowledge of viruses. In addition, good troubleshooting skills and the ability to interpret, organize, and communicate virology data are a must. The postdoctoral researcher expected to be highly motivated and well-organized, and capable of working both independently and as a member of a research team.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

$70,000 per annum.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
