POSITION SUMMARY:

The Snowmaking Supervisor oversees year-round maintenance of snow machines as well as supervising crews in summer and during the snowmaking season. He/she has a good understanding of Winter Parks heavy construction equipment and snow grooming equipment with attachments. This person must be able to operate equipment in the snowmaking system and understand the entire snowmaking system. This person operates heavy equipment in an efficient manner on an as needed basis and knows the capability of machinery as well as understanding maintenance functions. They consistently follows WPRA policies and procedures.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Show up for work in good condition.
  • Receive instructions for shift from Manager.
  • Perform required work in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Inform Manager of scheduled jobs not completed.
  • Inform mechanics of necessary repairs and/or service needed.
  • Maintain accurate up-to-date logs on snowmaking equipment.
  • Maintain accurate up-to-date shift logs.
  • Maintain a friendly, congenial, and helpful attitude while effectively dealing with guests, mechanics, and other employees.
  • Report and correct, if possible, unsafe conditions regarding equipment and area of work, or elsewhere on the ski area
  • Good housekeeping of assigned work, buildings, and equipment
  • Perform other duties as directed.
  • Doze, pack, grade trails and build roads for safe travel routes.
  • Transport proper equipment with attachments to job site
  • Converse with Supervisor/Manager about ideas for gun sets and gun types that save time and eliminate over blowing snow.
  • Possess a strong knowledge of compressor function and operation.
  • Strong knowledge of buildings, lift and pump house locations and functions.
  • Can perform start up and shut down of the snowmaking system.
  • Has a good understanding of positioning snow for high use areas.
  • Use initiative to call areas done to prevent over blowing of snow.
  • Positive input on Demo machines and other equipment
  • Has a basic knowledge of periodic services and maintenance of equipment.
  • Make educated decisions on moving snowmaking guns and adjusting snow conditions.
  • Solid understanding of hydrant locations and pump/valve house functions
  • Can train snowmaker levels 2 and 3 on trial isolation for emergencies
  • Helps to train Snowmaker and direct them efficiently in and out of the field.
  • Practices safe teaching methods for snowmobile, snow gun, hydrant, and pump house functions.
  • Provides clear, strong direction to all employees and controllers.
  • Must be able to maintain a sustainable heath standard in fast changing altitudes and workloads.
  • Can stay late or be called upon to do special project without or little supervision.
  • Has a good understanding of underground pipe layout and functions.
  • Has a good understanding of power pedestal and electrical circuits.
  • All duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Possess a valid, non-restricted motor vehicle license.
  • Able to work irregular hours and maintain a high level of caution and common sense while performing duties.
  • Have reliable transportation to work.
  • Skiing/snowboarding ability desired
  • First aid desirable.
  • Experience as snowmaker.
  • Possess strong knowledge of Winter Park trails and ski runs.
  • Possess strong knowledge of Winter Park Snowmaking system and all functions.
  • CDL license desired.
  • Knowledge of transporting various types of equipment, and freight
  • 4 or more years of experience in the operation and maintenance of equipment involved in job function and trail maintenance.
  • Knowledge of all equipment winter park uses to perform tasks to complete the job.
  • Knowledge of installing snowmaking infrastructure


EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • High School diploma or GED


WAGE:

The base hourly pay range below represents the low and high end of Winter Park Resort's hourly pay range for this position. Actual pay will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to experience, education, training, location, merit system, quantity or quality of production, responsibilities, and regular and/or necessary travel. The range listed is just one component of Winter Park Resort's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include many region-specific benefits.

Hourly Wage Rage: $24-$27

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Often lifting a weight of 50 pounds throughout the day is common.
  • This position will require working evenings, weekends, and holidays.


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, talk, see, hear, and operate a computer and other office productivity machinery.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Indoor/Outdoor: While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be exposed to harsh and varying outside weather conditions.
  • Hazardous Materials/Noise: The noise level in the workplace is usually moderate to high. Communicates with guests, leads and other employees in extremely noisy environments Exposure to: Chemicals required for cleaning, de-greasing, and painting, ultraviolet radiation from the sun enhanced through lack of atmospheric filtration at altitude. Fumes produced in activities ranging from cleaning to painting to fabrication of metal products. Noise generated by snowmobiles, snowmaking equipment, and tools may require hearing protection to be worn.
